A majestic Humphead Wrasse swims with divers in the crystal-clear waters of Beqa Lagoon, Fiji (00017665)
Description: The Humphead Wrasse, also known as Napoleon fish or Cheilinus undulatus, is a magnificent inhabitant of the seas. With a length of over two meters, it is a captivating sight in the waters of the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. This friendly fish lives along the reef edges and shows no hesitation in approaching divers. At night, it retreats to its sleeping cave, where it unfortunately becomes an easy target for poachers. Overfishing has led to a drastic decline in the population, as the Napoleon fish is considered a delicacy. The use of cyanide in capturing this species has devastating effects on the reef ecosystem. It is regrettable that these beautiful creatures are endangered due to their culinary value.
