Description: The Great Sphinx of Giza, also known as the Sphinx of Giza, is one of the most fascinating and mysterious monuments of the ancient world. The recumbent lion with a human head stands majestically about 350 meters from the Great Pyramid of Cheops, gazing at the sunrise over the Egyptian desert for over 4000 years. Carved from the yellowish limestone bedrock of the Giza Plateau, the Sphinx measures approximately 73.5 meters in length and about 20 meters in height. Its origin and purpose remain a mystery to this day, as no one knows for sure who built it or what function it served.
