Description: The cutting head of a Cutter Suction Dredger is showcased in Richards Bay, Natal, South Africa. Extensive dredging works were carried out during the construction of Richards Bay Harbour. Nine large cutter suction dredgers and two hopper dredgers were utilized. Over 70 kilometers of pipeline and five floating intermediate pump stations were necessary for the transportation of dredged material. A total of 170 million cubic meters had to be dredged.
