Galilei 2000 dredging for harbor development in Ras el Tin, Alexandria, Egypt

Description: The quaywall construction at Ras el Tin Harbor, Alexandria, Egypt, was an impressive construction project that involved the Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger Amerigo Vespucci and the Split Hopper Dredger Galilei 2000 (Jan de Nul). Extensive dredging and sand filling works were carried out, including the replacement of the seabed under the block wall to a depth of -24 meters. Subsequently, sand was filled up to -14.60 meters. The floating dredger Amerigo Vespucci suctioned sand outside the port of Alexandria and discharged 2200 m³ per trip at the future block wall foundation. After compacting the sand using the “Vibro-Compaction method,” the installation of the “Bedding Stone” commenced. The Vibro-Compaction works lasted approximately two months, and the further construction of the block base area only began after the completion of these works. The attention to detail and precision demonstrated in the harbor development are truly remarkable.
