Fighting Polar Bears in the Hudson Bay (00090092)
Description: The Polar Bear, scientifically known as Ursus maritimus, inhabits all Arctic coastal regions. Referred to as "Nanook" by the Inuit, this muscular bear can weigh between 300 and 600 kg and reach a total length of up to 3.5 meters. Its fur, ranging from white to yellowish, absorbs 95 percent of ultraviolet radiation. The Polar Bear's diet consists mainly of meat, but it also hunts seaweed, crabs, sea birds, bird eggs, berries, and carrion. An excellent swimmer and diver, it is well adapted to life in the Arctic.
