Description: The majestic polar bear, scientifically known as Ursus maritimus, is a fascinating creature that inhabits the Arctic coastal regions. Revered by the Inuit as 'Nanook', it is said to possess supernatural powers. Weighing between 300 to 600 kilograms and measuring up to 3.5 meters in length - from nose to tail - the polar bear is an impressive predator. The insulating properties of its white to yellowish fur, capable of converting 95 percent of UV radiation into heat, make it perfectly suited to the extreme conditions of the Arctic. The polar bear's diet consists mainly of meat, but also includes algae, crabs, seabirds, berries, carrion, and sometimes even flatfish.
