Description: The Spruce Grouse, scientific name Dendragapus canadensis, is a North American grouse bird found in the forests of Alaska. This particular Spruce Grouse was spotted at the Brooks River, where it was busy collecting red cranberries. Its dense plumage and feathers covering the nostrils help it stay warm during the cold season.
