Well-fed young brown bear at Brooks River in Alaska (00000016)
Description: The well-fed young brown bear (Ursus arctos horribilis) enjoys the last rays of sunshine in late autumn at the picturesque Brooks River in Katmai, Alaska. In the midst of tall grass, he discovers the remnants of a sockeye salmon and starts feasting. When a more imposing conspecific appears, he respectfully retreats, giving up the field. Soon, the winter landscape will blanket the river with the first snowfall.
