African Penguins and their habitats on Dyer Island in South Africa (00003564)
Description: The African Penguins, also known as Spheniscus demersus, breed on Dyer Island. The island is home to a variety of rare seabirds and is a protected natural paradise. Ruins of a former guano station stand as a reminder of a dark past when penguins and seals were hunted. Today, the island is a nature reserve where only a conservationist and occasionally a biologist reside.
