Discover fascinating South African fur seals underwater (00000323)
Description: South African fur seals (Arctocephalus pusillus) inhabit the rocky island called Geyser Rock near Dyer Island. Diving up to 50 meters deep, they can stay underwater for up to five minutes. The seal colony consists of approximately 60,000 animals, safe on land and in shallow water, but facing the danger of Great White Sharks on their way to the open sea. The high concentration of Great White Sharks is due to the seal colony.
