South African fur seals joyfully play in the roaring surf

Description: The South African fur seals (Arctocephalus pusillus) inhabit the rocky island of Geyser Rock, in close proximity to Dyer Island. With a colony of approximately 60,000 animals, they live in a breathtaking environment. This seal colony remains safe as long as the animals stay on land and in the shallow waters near the island. However, when they venture out for their fishing trips into the open sea, they must navigate dangerous waters where Great White Sharks lurk. The South African fur seals are a valuable prey for the sharks. The danger is only over when the seals are safely back on land. The high concentration of Great White Sharks in this area is due to the large seal colony.
