South African fur seals in stormy sea

Description: The South African fur seals (Arctocephalus pusillus) inhabit the rocky island of Geyser Rock near Dyer Island. This seal colony consists of approximately 60,000 animals. Watch as the fur seals glide safely and elegantly through the strong waves. While they are safe on land and in shallow water, they have to cross a dangerous zone with lurking Great White Sharks during their fishing trips to the open sea. Learn more about the significance of seals for the sharks and why the high concentration of predators is related to the colony.
