Enchanting South African Fur Seals in their Natural Habitat (00000535)
Description: The South African Fur Seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) can be found in the waters off Gansbaai/Geyser Rock. Geyser Rock, a small island, is home to a large seal colony of approximately 36,000 individuals. While the seals are safe on land and in shallow waters, venturing out to sea for fishing exposes them to the danger zone of Great White Sharks. These predators await the seals' return until they are safely back on land. The high concentration of Great White Sharks in the area is attributed to the presence of the seal colony.
Location: Western Cape, Gansbaai/Geyser Rock, South Africa
