Discover the Enchanting South African Fur Seal on Geyser Rock (00003712)
Description: The South African fur seal, scientifically known as Arctocephalus pusillus, inhabits Geyser Rock, a small rocky island off the coast of Gansbaai in the Western Cape, South Africa. This island is home to an impressive seal colony of approximately 36,000 individuals. While the seals are safe near the island, venturing into the open sea for fishing exposes them to dangers from Great White Sharks. These predators have a special affinity for seals and pose a threat until the seals safely return to land. The high concentration of Great White Sharks in the area is attributed to the large seal population.
