Preparation of fish heads with acoustic transmitters for bull sharks in Beqa Lagoon (00018052)

Fish heads of bull sharks equipped with acoustic transmitters

Description: In Pacific Harbour on Vitu Levu, Fiji, fish heads are prepared with acoustic transmitters to study the migration behavior of bull sharks. The study, initiated in 2004 by Dr. Juerg Brunnschweiler at the 'Shark Fin Reef' marine reserve in Beqa Lagoon, provides insights into the sharks' movement patterns. By inserting small transmitters into fish baits, researchers can track the location and range of the tagged bull sharks up to 800 meters.

Location: Vitu Levu, Beqa Lagoon, Pacific Harbour, Fiji
