Description: The Lemon Shark (Negaprion brevirostris) is a fascinating creature of the seas. This impressive specimen is swimming in the shallow waters of Walker's Cay, the northernmost of the 700 Bahamas islands. Measuring up to three meters in length and growing slowly, the Lemon Shark is a majestic sight. It reaches sexual maturity only after 12-15 years and has a low reproduction rate. Its main diet consists of bony fish and mollusks, but it also preys on small sharks, rays, and seabirds. The Lemon Shark is primarily nocturnal, favoring coastal areas and shallow waters. It can survive briefly in freshwater, posing a potential threat to humans.
