Description: The majestic Lemon Shark (Negaprion brevirostris) is a fascinating creature that can be found on the prowl in the shallow waters off Walker´s Cay, the northernmost of the Bahamas. With an average length of up to three meters and a slow growth rate, they are among the impressive inhabitants of the oceans. Lemon sharks reach sexual maturity only after 12-15 years and have a low reproductive rate. They mainly feed on bony fish and mollusks, but also prey on small sharks, rays, and seabirds. These nocturnal sharks prefer coastal areas and shallow waters, and can even survive in freshwater for short periods. Due to their behavior, they pose a potential threat to humans.
