Red Sponge in the Red Sea

Description: The red sponge (Cliona vastifica) lives in shallow waters in the Red Sea, covering lime substrates with a thin layer. It dissolves the substrate with an acid secretion, forming millimeter-wide tunnels that branch out extensively. Eventually, the sponge destroys the entire skeleton of the infected coral.
