Curious Baby Great White Shark exploring off the coast of Gansbaai (00010366)
Description: The Great White Shark, scientifically known as Carcharodon carcharias, is a fascinating creature of the oceans. This baby Great White Shark, only a few days old, is swimming six sea miles off the coast of Gansbaai near Dyer Island and Gyser Rock. Measuring 1.10 to 1.50 meters in length and weighing between 18 to 30 kilograms, it is already fully developed. Great White Sharks feed on small fish, rays, and squids. Pups like this one are cautious and quickly disappear when a larger shark appears. Only a few make it to adulthood.
