Encounter with a gray reef shark and a bigeye trevally at Shark Reef in Beqa Lagoon, Fiji (00018864)
Description: The gray reef shark (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos) is one of the most common species in the Indo-Pacific. It is distributed as far as Easter Island and West Africa. This shark species is often seen in shallow waters near coral reefs. The gray reef shark has a broad, round snout and large eyes. It can be identified by the plain or white-tipped first dorsal fin, the dark tips on the other fins, and the broad black margin on the tail fin. Most individuals are less than 1.9 m long. Gray reef sharks are fast-swimming, agile predators that feed primarily on fishes and cephalopods.
