Description: The blacktip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus) is a fascinating creature that calls the waters of Fiji home. With a maximum length of 160 cm and a grey-brown base color, it is easily recognizable. Its distinctive black tips on all fins and the black rim on the tail fin make it unmistakable. This species of shark prefers the tidal zone and is often found in shallow waters. Especially at the Shark Reef, in the Beqa Lagoon off Viti Levu, one can observe the blacktip reef shark and admire its grace.
