Description: The red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle L.) is a fascinating tree species that has adapted perfectly to the living conditions along salty coasts and brackish river estuaries. In the yellow waters of the Qara-ni-Qio River in Fiji, these up to 30-meter-high trees can be admired. They serve as important nurseries for numerous reef fish and invertebrates that find shelter in the murky waters. Mangroves play a crucial role as a link between land and sea and are essential for the ecosystem. Unfortunately, mangroves are severely threatened worldwide, with estimates that half of the mangrove forests have already been destroyed.
