Insight into Shark Research: Acoustic Transmitter in Fish Head for Bull Sharks in Beqa Lagoon, Fiji (00018056)
Description: In Pacific Harbour on Vitu Levu, Fiji, a fascinating research project was launched in 2004. An acoustic transmitter was implanted in a fish head to study the migration behavior of bull sharks (Carcharhinus leucas). The renowned biologist Dr. Juerg Brunnschweiler leads the Shark Fin Reef marine reserve in the Beqa Lagoon in Fiji. Working alongside initiator Mike Neumann, they aim to investigate the movement patterns of these fascinating marine creatures by providing bull sharks with fish baits containing acoustic transmitters. This allows for detailed recordings of their movements within a radius of up to 800 meters.
