Acoustic transmitters for studying the movement behavior of Bull sharks in Fiji (00018060)
Description: Located in Pacific Harbour on the island of Vitu Levu in Fiji, acoustic transmitters are being used to study the behavior of Bull sharks. The study, initiated in 2004, focuses on the migration patterns of these fascinating marine creatures. Dr. Juerg Brunnschweiler, a renowned biologist and director of the 'Shark Fin Reef' marine reserve in the Beqa Lagoon, Fiji, leads the project. The shark conservation initiative in Fiji is spearheaded by Mike Neumann. By embedding small acoustic transmitters in fish bait, the movements of tagged Bull sharks can be tracked within a radius of up to 800 meters. This method allows for a detailed examination of the sharks' local movement patterns.
