These majestic animals belong to the Balaenidae family and can reach lengths of up to 18 meters. They primarily inhabit the waters around the South Pole but can also be found in regions such as South Africa, South America, and New Zealand. Their main diet consists of krill and other small crustaceans. Due to extensive hunting, Southern Right Whales have been dramatically reduced in numbers, making them a critically endangered species.
