Raging storm with high wind speeds and wave heights at the Southern Tip of Africa (00011278)

Storm at the Southern Tip of Africa

Description: The southern tip of Africa is notorious for sudden hurricane-force storms with high waves. During my travels, I have encountered storms with wave heights of up to eight meters. Often, I had to wait for days until the weather calmed down. The waters around Cape Agulhas are abundant in fish, but due to the perilous coastline with numerous reefs, navigation here is extremely challenging. Since the 17th century, over 140 ships are said to have sunk in the waters off Cape Agulhas.

Location: Western Cape, Gansbaai/Dyer Island, South Africa
