A Warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) Emerging in the First Light of Morning (00016185)
Description: The Common Warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) inhabits the open, arid landscapes of Africa south of the Sahara. Known for their prominent facial warts, especially pronounced in males, warthogs typically live in small groups, primarily feeding on grass as vegetarians. Their main predators include lions, wild dogs, hyenas, and eagles. The Desert Warthog, Phacochoerus aethiopicus aethiopicus, once roamed the Cape Province but became extinct in the early 20th century. Cape buffalo live in small family groups or large herds, grazing on grasses, leaves, and herbs. While usually peaceful, they can be extremely dangerous when cornered or wounded.
