Description: The white tern (Gygis alba rothschildi) is a delicate, snow-white seabird with large, black-rimmed eyes. When flying, they appear ghostly beautiful and fragile, almost like characters from a fairy tale. These birds hunt fish in flight over the open sea and return to their young in the evening. Approximately 7500 pairs breed on the Midway Islands in the North Pacific.
