Fascinating White Tern on Midway Islands (00005672)
Description: The White Tern, also known as Fairy Tern or Gygis alba rothchildi, is a delicate, snow-white seabird soaring majestically over the deep blue sky of Midway Islands. With their large, black-rimmed eyes, White Terns appear almost like they came out of a fairy tale. They hunt for fish by gracefully gliding over the waves and swiftly diving into the water to catch their prey. These fascinating birds return in the evening with up to six fish in their bills to feed their young. Approximately 7,500 White Tern pairs breed on the Midway Islands, making it their nesting ground.
