Description: The Cape Gannet (Morus capensis) is an impressive endemic seabird that breeds on the offshore islands along the coasts of South Africa and Namibia. Easily recognizable by their large size, black and white plumage, and striking yellow crown and hindneck, they are a captivating sight. These birds are often seen hunting above schools of fish on the open sea. Cape Gannets dive from heights of 10 to 30 meters into the water and resurface shortly after with their prey. They hit the water at speeds ranging from 40 to 120 kilometers per hour and have no external nostrils.
