Description: The African Black Oystercatcher (Haematopus moquini) is an endemic bird species that breeds in Africa. This rare species is acutely threatened by extinction. With less than 500 breeding pairs recorded in 2001, the African Black Oystercatcher is considered one of the rarest coastal birds in South Africa. Immediate protective measures are urgently needed to ensure its survival.
