Description: The African Black Oystercatcher (Haematopus moquini) is the only species of its genus that breeds in Africa. Between March and September, this rare coastal bird captures attention in South Africa and Namibia. With less than 500 breeding pairs in 2001, the African Black Oystercatcher is critically endangered. Urgent protective measures are necessary to ensure its survival.
