Description: The Hawaiian monk seal, also known as Monachus schauinslandi, is a fascinating creature considered a living fossil. Measuring up to two meters in length and weighing between 200-300 kilograms, these animals inhabit the northwestern waters of the Hawaiian Islands. They feed on a variety of marine life and can be found in both shallow waters and the open sea. The Hawaiian monk seals are endangered and highly sensitive to human impacts.
