Description: At Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of the African continent in the Overberg District of the Western Cape in South Africa, the tragic shipwreck of the Meisho Maru 38 occurred. The cape, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, is known as one of the stormiest places and has been perilous to many ships. The historic lighthouse, built in 1848, still stands and guides ships safely through the treacherous waters with its powerful lights. Despite these precautions, the Meisho Maru 38 succumbed to the Needle Cape on November 16, 1982.
Location: Western Cape, Cape Agulhas, South Africa
