A Baby Great White Shark approaching confidently, yet remaining cautious (00010608)
Description: The Great White Shark (Carcharodon carcharias) is one of the most fascinating marine creatures. This image captures a young individual, only a few days old, bravely swimming through the clear waters off the coast of Gansbaai in South Africa. Great White Shark pups are fully developed and self-sufficient from birth. These animals primarily feed on small fish, rays, and squid. Young sharks are extremely cautious and quickly retreat when an adult shark appears. Only a few manage to reach adulthood.
Location: Western Cape, Gansbaai/Dyer Island, South Africa
