Description: The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a fascinating predator, almost extinct in Asia and highly endangered in Africa. With its long legs, it is the fastest land mammal on Earth. Cheetahs from different regions show genetic variations. Asian cheetahs are critically endangered, with the only remaining population in Iran. The Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in the Kapama Private Game Reserve breeds and cares for cheetahs with the aim of reintroducing them into the wild.
