Description: The Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a fascinating predator with a distinctive appearance. This majestic animal is nearly extinct in Asia and highly endangered in Africa. With its long legs, the cheetah is the fastest land mammal on Earth. Genetically distinct populations of cheetahs exist in different regions such as Northwest Africa, Southern Africa, and Asia. The Asian cheetahs are particularly at risk, with the last remaining population residing in Iran. At the Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in the Kapama Private Game Reserve, cheetahs are bred and cared for to preserve their species and eventually reintroduce them into the wild.
