A majestic cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) on a termite mound (00012302)
Description: The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a majestic predator perched on a termite mound in captivity, observing its surroundings. This fascinating species is nearly extinct in Asia and highly endangered in Africa. With its distinctive black spots and impressive speed, the cheetah is the fastest land mammal. Genetically, cheetah populations in different regions vary, such as the endangered Asian cheetahs in Iran. At the Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in the Kapama Private Game Reserve, both bred and rescued cheetahs are cared for and later reintroduced into the wild.
