Exhausted young cheetahs resting after play (00012315)
Description: The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a fascinating predator that is nearly extinct in Asia and highly endangered in Africa. With its long legs, it is the fastest land mammal in the world. The genetic diversity of cheetahs from different regions is impressive. These two exhausted young cheetahs are in captivity and being cared for at the Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in the Kapama Private Game Reserve. The center not only focuses on breeding cheetahs but also on rehabilitating rescued animals for eventual release back into the wild.
