Two fascinating young cheetahs at Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre (00012321)
Description: The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a fascinating big cat that is nearly extinct in Asia and facing severe threats in Africa. Known for its incredible speed, it is the fastest land mammal. Cheetahs from different regions show genetic variations. The last remaining population of Asian cheetahs resides in Iran and is critically endangered. At the Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in Kapama Private Game Reserve, both bred and rescued cheetahs are cared for and eventually reintroduced into the wild.
