Description: The King Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus jubatus) is a rare variation of the cheetah. This majestic animal, which looks almost like its spotted relative, features larger black spots that can merge into distinctive stripes. In this image, the King Cheetah attentively observes its surroundings. Cheetahs are the fastest land mammals and are considered an endangered species, especially in Africa. This picture was taken at the Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in the Kapama Private Game Reserve, where cheetahs are cared for and prepared for eventual release into the wild.
