The powerful eye of the African Elephant

Description: The African Elephant (Loxodonta africana) is the largest land mammal on Earth. This fascinating creature consumes around 200 kg of plants daily and is divided into two subspecies: the Savanna Elephant (Loxodonta africana africana) and the Forest Elephant (Loxodonta africana cyclotis). The Savanna Elephant inhabits the dry forests and savannas of Africa, reaching a shoulder height of nearly three meters and a weight of up to 7.5 tons. Despite the international ban on ivory trade in 1989, habitat loss due to expanding agricultural areas poses a significant threat to the African elephant population.
