Majestic herd of elephants in Addo Elephant National Park on the way to the watering hole (00016106)
Description: African Elephant/Afrikanischer Elefant/Loxodonta africana. A majestic herd of elephants is making its way to the watering hole in Addo Elephant National Park. Elephants are the largest land animals on earth and are divided into two subspecies: the African savanna elephant Loxodonta africana africana and the African forest elephant Loxodonta africana cyclotis. The savanna elephant inhabits the dry forests and savannas of Africa, reaching a shoulder height of nearly three meters and a weight of up to 7.5 tons. Illegal ivory trade has posed a significant threat to elephant populations, but international bans have helped enhance their protection. However, habitat loss due to the expansion of agricultural areas continues to endanger their survival.
