Red Mangroves at Qara-ni-Qio River During Low Tide (00017890)

Red Mangroves at the Shore of Qara-ni-Qio River

Description: The red mangroves, also known as Rhizophora mangle L., dominate the shore of the Qara-ni-Qio River. These trees and shrubs, reaching heights of up to 30 meters, are uniquely adapted to the salty coasts and brackish river mouths. They serve as vital nurseries for reef fish and invertebrates, providing ideal hiding spots in their murky waters. Mangroves play a crucial role in nutrient cycles between land and sea and are endangered due to the destruction of mangrove forests worldwide.
