Rubber tree (Ficus elastica) with aerial roots in the rainforest

Description: The rubber tree, also known as Ficus elastica, is an impressive plant that thrives in the rainforest with its characteristic aerial roots. Approximately 40 percent of Fiji's area is covered by lush rainforest, especially on the rainy southeastern side. Here, many plants such as orchids, hibiscus, bamboo, ferns, mangroves, and palms flourish. The rainforest is a habitat full of diversity where every niche is utilized. There is no other place on earth as biologically complex as the rainforest. Climbing plants thrive here and contribute to the unique flora.
