Description: The rainforest of Viti Levu in the Fiji Islands is an impressive ecosystem that hosts a variety of plants. The majestic rubber tree, also known as Ficus elastica, with its light to medium brown aerial roots, is a striking feature of this lush forest. Approximately 40 percent of Fiji's area is covered by rainforest, mainly on the rain-rich southeastern side of the island. Here, orchids, hibiscus, bamboo, ferns, mangroves, palms, moss, and vines grow in unparalleled diversity. The rainforest is home to numerous climbing plants and is one of the most biologically complex habitats on earth.
