Impressive Great Frigatebird on Eastern Island (00005364)
Description: The Great Frigatebird, also known as Fregata minor palmerstoni, is an impressive resident of Eastern Island. With a wingspan of up to two meters and a weight of under two kilograms, they are extremely skilled flyers. Their favorite prey is flying fish, but they also hunt squid and other marine creatures at the surface. Hatchling turtles and young seabirds are particularly vulnerable. As pirates of the skies, they even attack other seabirds to steal their catch. This fascinating behavior makes the Great Frigatebird a unique subject for nature photography.
