Trailing suction hopper dredger Galilei 2000 (00093019)
Description: Quaywall construction in Ras el Tin Harbor, Alexandria, was carried out using the trailing suction hopper dredger Galilei 2000. Extensive dredging and sand fill operations took place, involving the Amerigo Vespucci and the Galilei 2000 (Jan de Nul). This included a soil exchange under the block wall to a depth of -24 meters, followed by filling with sand to -14.60 meters. The floating dredger Amerigo Vespucci suctioned sand outside the port of Alexandria and unloaded 2200 m³ per trip at the future block wall foundation. The installation of the 'Bedding Stone' could only begin after the sand was sufficiently compacted using the 'Vibro-Compaction Method' with Twin Vibrators from Keller. The Vibro-Compaction works extended approximately 50 meters ahead of the stone placement with diameters ranging from 10 to 200 mm. The completion of the block seating area only took place after the Vibro-Compaction works were finished.
