Description: The Common Warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) inhabits the open, dry landscapes of Africa south of the Sahara. Known for their distinctive facial warts, these animals live in small groups and primarily feed on grass. Lions, wild dogs, hyenas, and eagles are among the main predators of warthogs. In the Cape Province, the Desert Warthog Phacochoerus aethiopicus aethiopicus used to reside but was eradicated in the early 20th century.
