Description: The common warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) inhabits the open, arid landscapes of Africa south of the Sahara. These impressive animals are characterized by their distinct facial warts, especially in males. They live in small groups and mainly feed on grasses. Their main predators include lions, wild dogs, hyenas, and eagles. The Cape warthog Phacochoerus aethiopicus aethiopicus also used to inhabit the Cape Province but was eradicated in the early 20th century.
